Abstract
The coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) caused a total turn around the world, such as the closure of schools, universities and institutes. Distance education for its benefits of flexibility in time and space is an option for people to continue with their education and an immediate solution to respond to this emergency. This literature review is descriptive as it reviews the literature. Its objective is the approximation of the different conceptions of distance education, the benefits and the important role played by the actors, the teacher and the student through the interaction of both. The methodology is of a documentary type because it investigates, selects and reviews the literature of various research articles on the subject. It is concluded that distance education is a flexible offer that generates great interest in students to continue their education. It allows the development of student autonomy as well as development in the use of technology and, in the current context of the pandemic, they are an option that allows us to face the problem of closing schools, institutes and universities.
